Although this is a little idea of psychology I never actually realized “recognition” was a psychological term for being able to pick stuff out. In all my years of studying and repetition of reading vocabulary terms etc. I was never able to just come up with answers right off hand. I’m only good at being able to choose the correct answers from a list or matching. This, being a student, is an awful trait to have seeing as the more advanced my classes have gotten, the more and more fill in the blank questions are being asked.
Another way I use my recognition skills is when spelling complicated words. I have never been able to spell intricate words that I’ve seen before out loud. I always have to write different versions of the word until I can recognize which spelling is the correct one. Luckily nowadays things have to be typed out so the computer does all the different versions for me and I just have to select the correct word I’m looking for. Sadly enough, recognition rules my entire thinking process.
